Hummus Salad Dressing: 3 Ways

Creamy, totally dairy-free, packed with flavour and fibre, these three hummus salad dressings will take your salad bowls to a whole new joyous level.
May 15, 2023 | Joy McCarthy

I'm glad I can finally declare that it's salad season! Even though I eat salads year-round, the ingredients change depending on the weather. In the cooler months, I eat salads with lots of roasted veggies and in the warmer months I enjoy more raw salads . No matter what your salad ingredients are, it's allll about the dressing anyway, am I right!?

This creamy and fulfilling salad dressing has a magical ingredient - hummus.

Delicious salad with creamy dressing

You might think hummus was just for dipping carrots or crackers into, think again! It adds richness and creaminess you could only dream of getting from yogurt or heavy cream. This is way better because it's totally dairy-free. I'm not anti-dairy but I eat a very low dairy diet overall as it's better for my digestion and skin.

Now if you want to make hummus yourself, you can do that. But no one is judging you if you just buy your favourite hummus and whip up this dressing. It adds so much pizzaz (yes I just wrote pizzaz and it's 2023) to otherwise boring salads!

A benefit of this dressing is that it makes your salad so much more fulfilling since hummus has protein, fat and tons of fibre keeping your belly satified longer.

Hummus Salad dressing

I've created 3 different hummus salad recipes for you to choose from. All of these dressings will make a serving of two, so just double or triple as needed. First up is a beautiful Beet Hummus Dressing just bursting with flavour, colour and nutrients.

Next up a Simple Hummus Dressing. The dijon and apple cider vinegar (acv) add a tangy kick plus you get all the gut-loving benefits of using a fermented food like acv. This is the dressing I used on this scrumptious salad pictured below! We make this all the time.

This is also delicious as dip or sauce for just about anything from falafels to burgers.

You might be wondering what hummus I buy if I don't make it myself. My favourite is Sunflower Kitchen. It's very clean, no canola oil which I avoid and super tasty. I just realized that I need to get a plain hummus recipe up on the blog. It's pretty much the easiest thing to make and far more affordable than buying pre-made hummus. Plus you're in charge of the ingredients.

I hope these creamy and yummy salad dressings give you some salad inspo for the weeks to come!
