Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
I'm off on another turmeric kick again! Ever since making my Turmeric Mango Golden Balls a couple of weeks ago – have you tried this recipe yet?! – I've been all about this super spice yet again. It's not the first time this has happened either. You may remember my obsession back when I created the Lazy Lady Latte .
Enter, the Golden Smoothie.
Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic recipe that dates back thousands of years. It's been used to heal and prevent a number of ailments, including preventing colds and flu, easing muscle and joint pain, clearing skin inflammations, easing digestion and supporting sleep.
The main ingredient in golden milk is turmeric , which accounts for all of its awesome benefits and vibrant yellow hue! I've adapted this delicious traditional recipe into a yummy smoothie that can be enjoyed for a satisfying breakfast or snack.
If you love my Lazy Lady Latte and my Turmeric Ginger Iced Latte then this creamy smoothie is a must-try! It's got a lot going for it, too:
This is the perfect dessert smoothie, but you can enjoy it for breakfast, too. Here's the recipe. I adapted it from the Soothing Golden Smoothie in Joyous Detox.
Makes 1 smoothie
*I used New Chapter Fermented Organic Turmeric
This recipe is adapted from Joyous Detox.
If you add some plant-based protein powder this is a wonderful wake-up-and-shine smoothie! The protein will help balance your blood sugar and boost your metabolic rate for the day. Heck, you could even make this a post-workout smoothie because that's the ideal time to utilize carbs and protein right after a workout!
And if you're on a turmeric kick like me, then you should also make a batch of the Golden Balls while you're at it! These recipes will make you feel so good from the inside out :)
And one more photo just for fun!
Enjoy!
xo Joy
LOVED this recipe! My boyfriend isn’t the biggest coconut fan, but he couldn’t get enough. This was very tasty, thank you Joy!
ReplyYou're very welcome, glad to hear he loved this smoothie Dondrea!
Joy did you use the canned coconut milk or the carton from Silk?
ReplyYou could use either but I used coconut milk from a carton :)
Yummy, tho I never miss an opportunity to add spinach and some frozen mango. Delish!
Replyyes!
What type of protein powder do you recommend?
ReplyI really like Genuine Health's vegan protein powder. Here's a link: https://shop.genuinehealth.com/en-ca/fermented-organic-vegan-proteins?_ga=2.124646668.749620641.1566220762-1732773905.1565292211
This was delicious Joy! Thank you. Do you think it would be an option to use a mix of almond milk and coconut milk?
ReplyOh yes totally! That would be lovely too.
Could I substitute ground ginger with fresh and if so, how much ground? Thanks!
ReplyIt really depends on how spicy you like it and it also depends on the quality and freshness of the ground ginger. I would do about 1/2 tsp if I was using ground or maybe more depending how spicy I want it.
Looks good! Would there be any reason I couldn’t give kids 2 and up this? It seems like a normal amount of turmeric, but wasn’t sure. THANKS!
ReplyYep! My daughter drinks it too :)
Thanks 😊
ReplyThis is definitely a sweet treat in the morning! I highly recommend this if you have a sweet tooth craving.
ReplyGlad you enjoyed this one Rebecca!
What brand coconut flake and cinnamon you recomend?
ReplyI love Let's Do Organic for shredded coconut and Cha's Organics for all my herbs and spices.
Thank you so much😊
ReplyMay I ask what brand of coconut milk from a carton you buy? I’m always confused if I should’ve using canned or carton when a recipe calls for coconut milk?? Thanks
ReplyIn my recipes, if it's best with canned coconut milk then I will always mention that to avoid confusion. Canned coconut milk is always richer and more flavourful but certain recipes don't necessarily require that. For convenience, you can definitely use coconut milk from a carton for this. However, it has been soooooooo long since I have bought coconut milk from a carton. I always buy oat milk from Earth's Own. Check the Silk brand for organic coconut milk. I just buy whatever is at the health food store as long as it's additive-free or free from most additives.
This was good. I think I need a Vitamix though as it was gritty. It was also not very cold, so next time I would as some icecubes. My bananas were frozen.
ReplyI like cold smoothies too, especially this time of year! Vitamix definitely does a great job!
yum
ReplyI have a severe allergy to bananas. Any thoughts on a substitution? Thank yo so much.
ReplyYou could use half an avocado instead. It will give the same creaminess.
Where would I need to go to find the ingredients for this?
ReplyHi Angela, you are commenting on the post with the recipe within the blog. Scroll down the page.
Do you happen to have a break down of nutritional information?
ReplySorry I do not.
Hi Joy! I attempted to make this golden smoothie but it didn't turn out quite like I expected(texture really thick). I used a frozen banana, and about 1/2 14oz can of coconut milk. I used 3 pitted medjool dates but had to remove them from blender, chop then put back. It all tastes good but any suggestions on better results next time? Thank you
ReplyIf the medjol dates are too dry, I would soak them in some hot water for a few minutes because that will provide some more moisture. If the texture is still too thick, just add some more coconut milk to you get your desired consistency.
