It's late and it was a loooong day of shooting cooking vids for a health magazine and attending the Orthomolecular Health seminar on anxiety tonight, but rather than going to sleep I had to share this with you.

As I scanned my iPhone for any last emails or texts that require my immediate attention before sleep, this blog that I subscribe to caught my eye with it's title: "Are you being strategic or authentic in that special relationship". (Funny, because I didn't even realize at first that it was my dad's blog!!!). I read the whole thing and it really got me thinking and inspired me to write this short post for you this evening.

Authenticity is not always easy, but it's worth it. I personally can relate. In my closest relationships with both men and women throughout my life there have been times when I should have be more honest, should have listened to my inner wisdom and then later heard that voice inside my head saying "I told ya so!".

The torture I put myself through by not being authentic hurt people and hurt myself. When I wasn't authentic with what I really wanted and communicated what I desired, I was putting emotional stress on myself to be and do, what didn't feel right.

Now being authentic with your true feelings towards others may not always give you the reaction you expect from that person, but it's better now, than later. Why put off what you can do right now for another day? Why put off being truly happy another day?

Just remember that people who are not ready for your authenticity will slowly leave your life or perhaps take a vacation, which will open the door to strengthen current relationships or create new ones.

When you are authentic, you peel back the layers to be vulnerable (this is a mighty good thing!) and be true to your values. Being authentic promotes harmony between your body, mind and your soul.

Be joyous,

Joy

Hello Joy, I follow you on Twitter and love how your tweets brighten my otherwise "commercial" twitter feed. Inevitably, I am taken to your website by an authentically-placed link (not strategically-placed) to read, yet another of your seemingly tireless forays into the realm of what is "real." Much of what I strive for, in both my personal and professional life, involves developing a foundation of authenticity and being consistently authentic. This is no small or easy task. I must give myself permission to be wrong; check my ego; and realize I still have a lot to learn - even from those much younger than me. I am the father of five daughters and am touched by the connection you and your father obviously have. I will see all five daughters this Thanksgiving and will be reminded of the blessings and challenges I have had - and still have - in my life. Many Continued Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving! Hi Wayne, Thank you for your thoughtful comment on my blog - much appreciated. I agree, it's not an easy task and you are right... no matter our age, we never stop learning. I'm sure 10 years from now I will still be checking my ego and learning/evolving and growing. Thank you for sharing! I'm sure you can learn so much from your 5 daughters - wow :) Joy

Hi Joy, you just totally hit a nerve with this blog post! Thank you so much for sharing it and especially for the timing. I am seriously struggling with a moral dilemma related to my work. My morals are at risk of being compromised by a project and it's killing me inside. If I speak up, I will probably lose my job but if I don't, I'll lose a part of me. I'll just have to trust that the Universe will take care of the outcome as long as I do the right thing.
