Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
Want beautiful skin and hair? Balanced hormones? Reduced inflammation? No more sugar cravings? Make sure you always include this essential macronutrient at every meal and snack my favourite one in fact FAT.
I've created a video for you all about fat!
Fat has many roles and benefits in the body, as I've mentioned in my video, such as:
Skin: Good fat moisturizes the skin from the inside out. In fact, fatty acid deficiency manifest as dry skin. Having the right type of fat in abundance also keeps inflammatory skin problems, such as eczema, rosacea and acne, in check. For more tips on dealing with dry skin naturally, check out this post.
Hair: Makes your hair shiny. Fatty oils are secreted from the sebaceous glands in your scalp, which make your hair shine and prevent a flaky scalp.
Balanced hormones: Aid in the regulation of sex hormones. For more hormone-balancing solutions, I've got a five-part series on hormonal balance that you can find here.
Lowered inflammation: Turns off inflammatory chemical responses. Learn more foods to reduce inflammation.
Nutrient absorption: Aids in the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E and K.
Cushions organs: Fat provides insulation, cushioning and support to your organs.
Every single cell in your entire body is made of a layer of fat.
It's not the caloric value of fats that matter; it's the types of fats you're eating that really count. Examples of good fats are healthy oils like olive, pumpkin and coconut, as well as avocados, nuts and seeds.
Watch my video below and then check out my healthy and joyous recipes to ensure you get enough healthy fats every day.
Here are some of the tastiest joyous recipes that incorporate my fave sources of healthy fats!

Hi Joy! Can you recommend a vegan or vegetarian omega supplement suitable for pregnancy?
ReplyHi Lindsay! The brand Genestra makes a vegan Omega supplement that would be worth looking into :) All the best. Heather- Joyous Health team

Thanks for the list of healthy fats.. But how much would be a serving size? For oils, avocado, olives and nut butters, for example? Thanks! :)
ReplyHi Brianne! As a general guideline, the serving size for healthy fats is about the size of your thumb :) Heather- Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy, thanks for the video, very well explained👍🏼👍🏼 What do you think of high fat diets? How much percent of fat should a person eat a day in average?
ReplyHey Laiza, So glad you enjoyed it :) We live by the mantra that "fat is your friend" and to integrate healthy sources at every meal. It really depends on the perosn though. Some people thrive on high fat diets with more of a moderate carbohydrate intake while some people do well with a moderate intake of fat. Your best bet is finding what feels best for your body, but you can start by aiming to including 20-30% healthy fat sources at each meal :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy! I do enjoy all of your videos so far! I am new to your site having recently been recommended and bought the Eczema Healing Guide. My question however is totally irrelevant to oils but I have been admiring your coffee machine in the background and wondered if you could tell me what make and model it is?! If not no worries! Thanks again!
ReplyHey Jocelyne, Thanks so much for your kind words! We're so happy to hear you're enjoying all things Joyous Health. Joy and Walker's coffee machine is a Breville. Walker loves it for making his morning espresso and Joy loves it for steaming her coconut or almond milk :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Loved the video. Just a quick question, a handful of almonds is what we should have......but how about when we bake with almond flour or treats with almond butter.......than it takes a lot of almonds to prepare almond butter/flour etc. Are we eating too many almonds then when we eat our baked goods?
