Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
Hey joyous reader!
I get a ton of questions about what kind of makeup I use so I thought I would film a video about it.
Here my video sharing...
What's in my make-up bag?
Enjoy the video and check below for links to the brands I mention.
Here are all the links to the products I mentioned in my video. Each product's website will likely have a "find a retailer" section so you can locate where you can buy it in the city you live in. I personally shop all over for my products -- many health food retailers have a cosmetics section:
100% Pure Mascara - This is my go-to mascara on a daily basis (thanks to the lovely lady at Truth-Beauty-Co for introducing me to it!). It's clean, natural and conditions the eyelashes with key ingredients such as vitamin E and B5. The colour I use is pigmented with black tea.
Eminence Organic Mineral Illuminator. Weekdays, weekends or date nights I use the Chai Berry colour. It gives you a fresh dewy glow without any harmful chemicals.
Logona Blush. This blush has a nice tint to give your skin a skin-kissed glow. When I want a little lift on a dreary day or if I'm going out on the town, I put this on.
Lovely Lavendar Natural Deodarant. It keeps my pits stink-free and helps to moisturize them too. I know it's tough to find a good natural deo which is why I'm such a huge of this joyous product. We have a lemon natural scented deo in our shop as well.
Suncoat Nail Polish. This polish is non-toxic, water based polish. This is the cleanest nail polish that I've seen to date and it works! They have a line for kids too that is a peelable nail polish.
Zuxu Luxe Eyeshadow. This mineral based shadow stays on and the colour is rich. I have the "ice princess" colour which is like a colbalt blue with shimmer. All their colours are super pretty. This is the pink lipstick I mentioned in the video "dollhouse pink".
Gabrielle Cosmetics Pressed Powder / Foundation. Mineral based powder that works like a foundation. Foundation products are usually rated the worst on EWG. I actually couldn't find a rating for this one. I love how silky it feels on my face. For photoshoots, videos and TV this is what I use. It gives my face great coverage when I need to eliminate any shine or redness. Years ago I used MAC studio fix and this was my replacement.
Zuzu Luxe Lip Gloss. I've gone through at least 3 tubes of the colour "bronzite". It works well as a shimmer on top of a matte lipstick or on it's own.
Mychelle Dermaceuticals Argan Oil. I love this serum oil after washing my face just before bed because it's ultra-nourishing. I also love using it as a cuticle oil. It is rich in antioxidants like vitamin E which is helpful for preventing wrinkles.
Joyous Lip Balm "incredible kissable" soon to be called Lip TreatMint. Everything you want in a lip balm and nothing you don't want such as chemicals. It's made with natural oils. This is the only joyous natural beauty product that is not vegan because it contains an essential ingredients- beeswax. I keep this with me in every pocket!

I loved this video! Thanks for introducing me to some new brands. :) The Grass Skirt
ReplyHi Joy! Thank you for another great video! Question: what do you use as an eye make up remover? I will for sure try the mascara but wondering about removing it since I have sensitive skin. Also, what about your daily face cleaner and moisturizer products? Thanks again for all the joyous info!
ReplyHi Isabelle, I use coconut oil to remove make up :)
Love this video! Im taking Holistic Nutrition in school and was wanting to make the switch from my chemical products (yuck!) to clean all natural products. Thank you for your recommendations! :)
ReplyGorgeous plant pot in the background ! Where is it from ?
ReplyThe mosaic one? I got it as a gift.. so I'm not sure.
I can't get enough of these blogs and videos about natural/organic skincare and makeup products, thanks so much!!!! I've overhauled all of my skincare and haircare products so that they all rate a 2 or lower on the ewg site Skin Deep. Now I am working on makeup and nail polish. You said you like using the Mychelle Dermaceuticals Argan Oil as a cuticle oil. Do you know if it will help with already breaking and peeling nails? I cannot find something to stop all of my nails from peeling and breaking all the time. On a couple of fingers they are peeling down to the skin and it gets painful :-( Thanks!
ReplyHey Candice, do you wear a lot of nail polish? I find this to be a very common cause of peeling and breaking nails. Your nails need time to literally breath and grow. If you don't wear nail polish then I would suggest you make sure you eat a large variety nuts and seeds for plenty of minerals, leafy greens including fresh green herbs, beans, lentils, chia seeds and fish for healthy nails.
I was so sad when I switched to a natural lifestyle and gave up nail polish (which I loved) what girl doesn't love painting their nails? I'm so happy you have a clean brand of nail polish on your list. I'm going to try it for sure! www.westingwellness.com
ReplyHi Joy, Thanks for the very informative video and post! I've been seeing a lot of Live Clean products (http://live-clean.com/default.aspx) lately and I'm wondering what's your take on them? In their FAQs they acknowledge some of their EWG scores aren't great, but it seems to be the "fragrance" they use. Their products seem widely available, and that has me excited yet also concerned. Thanks!
Great information in this blog post! Do you happen to know of a natural liquid eyeliner product?
ReplyHi Tania, 100% Pure (the same company that makes the mascara Joy likes) also makes a liquid eyeliner: http://www.100percentpure.ca/CREAMY-LIQUID-EYE-LINER-Blackberry-s/521.htm?gclid=CIiSk5KV7MICFQmOaQodiTYAow
Hi Joy! I tried the 100% Pure mascara and love it! I found it at a small natural cosmetics store on Scollard called HUSK (in Toronto) which I didn't even know existed before. Can you make any suggestions on where I could get Gabrielle Cosmetics Pressed Powder in Toronto?
ReplyHello Joy. Have tried a few of these products and agree with your recommendations. I am wondering if you have tried any of the Pure and Simple products - and if so, what are your thoughts about them. Thanks for your input.
ReplyYes I love Pure and Simple! I use their "just pure" line as my daily moisturizer when it's really dry out. I also love their Collagen and Elastin serum. I change my products depending on the season and my skin.
Hi Joy! loved the what's in my make-up bag video! Can you recommend a face bronzing powder? thanx! Sylvia
ReplyYes, I love Eminence mineral based bronzing powder.
Hi Joy, I want to try the Gabriel makeup and the argan oil, but I am wondering if you know of any stores in the GTA that sell the products instead of buying online. Thanks
ReplyJust watched your video! It's great and very informative. Hannah, Makeup Artist
ReplyJust a note, the Logona blush contains carmine. I was going to try it for myself since I need a new blush, until I saw that.
ReplyHi Hazel! Carmine is rated a "1" on the Environmental Working Group's website, which means it has no toxicity concerns. It is also a sustainable ingredient. The only other option is something synethic which would mean coal tar dye derived colour and that is definitely not clean. However, I can understand if you are vegan wanting to avoid it. Let us know if you have more information on it that we are not aware of. Thanks!
Great info! What kind of toothbrush and toothpaste do you use? I'm having a hard time with those. Thanks :)
ReplyHi Erin, I really like Green Beaver's toothpaste. In terms of toothbrush, we have a Sonicare system at my house. Kate - Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy! Thanks for this great video! What brush do you use to apply the Gabriel Powder?
ReplyGood Afternoon I was wondering where I can purchase the 100% Pure Mascara, is there a retailer in Ontario? Thank you Haidee
ReplyHi Haidee, We usually buy online, but I think I've seen their stuff at the Detox Market in downtown Toronto. Kate - Joyous Health Team
Thanks for sharing this info! Can you share what shade of the foundation powder you use? It's hard to gauge online but I think I'm a similar skin tone and would love to try this product! :)
ReplyHi Angela, Joy uses D-14 powder from their Zuzu line. I hope you like it as much as she does :) Heather- Joyous Health Team
Hi Y'all, Where can I get the Gabrielle Cosmetics Pressed Powder / Foundation in GTA.. or is this an online order only. Thanks so much!
ReplyThey sell it at Whole Foods and the Big Carrot.
Joy, I wanted to thank you for recommending Gabriel foundation powder. Although it is expensive, I decided to try it after my boyfriend kept saying he could smell the chemicals of the cheap brand I used as soon as I opened the bottle (I do my makeup beside him in the car every morning and he would say that every morning) . Since making the switch, my skin looks so much better ! No toxic scent, it goes on smooth and looks way more natural. Thanks for inspiring us to make these changes ! ❤
ReplyAw, we're so happy to hear that! I'm so happy to hear you found a good fit for you and are already reaping the results - that's amazing! Thanks so much for sharing! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Thank you SO MUCH for the helpful information!!!
ReplyHey Susan, So happy to hear it was beneficial to you! :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Thank you for this awesome video full of info! I have been making a lot of changes over the last 3 years to replace all chemicals in my home and i am now ready to focus on my makeup bag! Can you recommend a Canadian website that sells the Gabriel powder foundation? (I live in the middle between Ottawa and Montreal and don't have access to many health stores in my area)
ReplyThank you Joy. I use a number of Eminence Products and I will look for the illuminator you recommended. I was wondering what you think of the Tarte Mineral foundations if you are familiar with them?
ReplyI don't know Tarte, where do you buy them? A clean brand?
Can u recommend another mascara please? I love the colour of 100% pure bit unfortunately it stings my eyes badly.
ReplyI don't use this mascara anymore actually! I switched to Pure Anada and I love it! This is the one I use: https://www.pureanada.ca/black-mascara/
