Welcome to thoughtful, organic beauty
Hello Joyous is an organic, plant-based, sustainable beauty brand here to bring more joy to your day.
While coaching one of my clients a few weeks ago she asked me where she could buy hempseed butter. Since I had not seen my favourite brand in a while (and later discovered it's been discontinued - boo hoo!), I watched a video and realized just HOW easy it is to make yourself (woo hoo!)
And so, that's precisely what I did this morning - made some hempseed butter to take on the road with me!
The timing couldn't be more perfect because I just taught a workshop last week on my favourite superfoods and hemp was on the list, not be confused with the illegal hemp of course! ;)
Here are some health benefits of hemp that people have reported when introducing hemp to their diet:
These benefits are largely due to the complete protein (yes, ALL the essential aminos), good fat (omega 3s and 6s) present in hemp. Hemp is also a wonderful source of a fatty acid called GLA which is both hormonally balancing and anti-inflammatory.
This recipe is wonderful spread on toast or sliced apple. You will love just how easy it is to make too. If you are new to hemp seeds, keep in mind this butter tastes very hemp-y, which is a good thing in my opinion but I LOVE hemp!
Hempseed Maple Butter
Yields: 1 cup(ish) of hemp seed butter
Joyous Tip
If you want a creamier and/or sweeter texture add more oil or more maple syrup.
Just made this one with coconut oil and it's fantastic! Thanks Joy!
Replygood recipe - thanks! I also made a variant using 1/4 cup of shredded fresh coconut in place of the dates - that turned out well also. I'm looking for recipes that use whole, unshelled hempseed but am finding very little. the whole seeds have great fiber content and some other components that should be healthy. Any ideas or possible resources? thanks!
ReplyI've never tried hemp seeds before, so am looking forward to giving this a try. Sounds like it might be tasty.
ReplyFor better digestion or nutriton do you need to grind the seeds to a flour?
ReplyNot at all. Hemp seeds are super easy to digest. Enjoy!
Just to clear up, hemp is perfectly legal, no THC in there at all. It's cannabis (weed) that contains THC and is illegal :) Hemp is all good, fully legal and non-trippy :)
